Coming out of Egyptian slavery, Israel was a broken, beaten, and scarred people. God rescued His people from slavery, but for them to be genuinely free, He also had to deliver them from their slave mentality. Meeting Israel at Mt Sinai, He gave them Ten Words—Commandments—by which to live. Far from being tests of faithfulness, they were the divine blueprint for living as a free people, under God. We have been set free from slavery to Sin by God’s grace manifest in Yeshua. However, if we want to remain truly free, we must learn to live the life that God desires for us. These ancient commandments still speak truth into the world today, teaching us how to remain free from slavery to sin.
