Revelation Unmasked is a series that Dr. Dinah Dye and I recorded with Israel TV Network. In the 11-part series, we discuss various aspects of the book of Revelation, looking at how culture and context inform us how John's original audience would have understood the letter and what that means for us today. The video on this post is an interview we recorded after finishing up the series. It will give you a great idea of the content of the upcoming series. This series will be released on DVD and digital rental before the end of December 2019. It will not be released on this website.

Very discouraging… I get it that the circle of men’s evil never ends and that John’s revelation may have been about 1st c. current events …. this interpretation unfortunately leaves the world in chaos with a distant hope of resurrection. Some day. Far away.
Could the revelation have not been about world conditions marking a future appearing of our LORD? Why limit your reading of the book to the church’s byword, “either/or”? Why not “both”? Or do I misunderstand you?

I know that it is popular to claim that Revelation is predicting future events, but how many failed predictions do we have to go through before we acknowledge that maybe we should re-evaluate how we read the book. Your statement about it “may have been about 1st-century current events” is exactly why Dinah and I felt this teaching is necessary. Of course it is about first-century events! The original audience would never have preserved the letter if it was indecipherable to them.
You do misunderstand us about it only being about the past though. While the specific events are set in the past, this does not make it “the church’s byword”. That is the Preterist position that neither of us subscribes to. What we are saying is that, while the events spoken of refer to things in the past, it still powerfully speaks to us about our present world and how we must resist evil which continues to operate in the same manner as it did in ancient Rome. I refuse, however, to be part of the vicious cycle of people abusing the book in order to claim knowledge of future events, outside of the fact that the Lamb is already victorious and we will be resurrected into eternal glory.
