Revelation and the Alternate Reality
One of the things we often struggle with is wondering how Yeshua can be king, how God can really be in charge when there is so much suffering and death and evil in the world. This same question would have been asked by John's audience as well; how can we really proclaim the Good News - that Yeshua has won the victory - when Rome is still in charge? John's letter speaks to these questions revealing that there is a different reality and one we can choose to live in right here and now. The powerful message that still speaks to us today is that you can reject the dominant narrative and live out a different reality and that living it out can make a real difference in this world!
Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Yeshua, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
